Back in my parents’ attic, stashed somewhere among the hundreds of books I have managed to collect so far, is an item of great sentimental value to me. It’s the collector’s edition of an album by the incredible Darren Hayes called Secret Codes and Battleships. It contains a purple vinyl disk, two CDs with the bonus tracks and the original demos, a beautifully designed booklet with the album art and lyrics. It’s much more pop sounding and light than his very dark and reflective album Tension and the Spark. I don’t regret spending my week’s wages on it.
